welcome & Hello!

I am a math instructor and teacher leader at East Kentwood High School in Kentwood, Michigan. My school has a wonderfully diverse student body and a talented staff who are committed to student success. I have served my school in a variety of roles including Math Department Chairperson, Academic Support Coach, and point person for the Rising Teacher Leaders. Outside my school, I deliver impactful keynote speeches and facilitate teacher learning in curriculum, assessment, and leadership. I am humbled to have been recognized for my efforts in education with the Presidential Award and, most recently, the 2017-2018 Michigan Teacher of the Year

In the Community's Words

I was one of the more struggling students. Usually teachers don’t recognize that or, if they do, they don’t care. Mr. Wilcox pulled me aside; he had me stay after; he had me come in early in the morning.
— Erica Simbi, Student
His motivation, his drive, it’s selfless … he’s looking for the best interest of not just our department and school but for education in general, and what can we do to (improve) mathematics in general, across the U.S.
— Lindsey Szczepanek, Teacher
What makes Luke especially outstanding is not only what he does inside the classroom but what he does in the whole building. He inspires us to be better teachers.
— Jenin Shamali, Teacher
He builds positive relationships with his students. They love him and he loves them, and they succeed all together because of that relationship.
— Michael Zoerhoff, Superintendent
